SETUP PROCESS FOR DOCUMENTATION AND RESEARCH

Selecting the CIMS idea management system will show the following display. We will now discuss the means of setting up customized displays and entering data. One thing to note is that you will not need to perform any technical tasks such as selecting directories of file names. All you will need to do is enter data be it a description or a menu line item. That's all. The system will do the rest for you!

If you need to set up a procedure you simply either replace one of the original entries or add to it. You first decide the structure of your data and then build the allocations by simply entering line items and specifying whether the line item is a text item or another menu command file. You do not have to worry about any naming conventions since the system will build the basic elements and you are ready to enter information that is important to your business or home operations.

You control the system totally. Whatever changes to the system that you make however does effect everyone else that is using the computer. Now the creative idea portion of the CIMS system is different. Whatever changes you make there only applies to you. The reasoning for this is that procedures usually apply to everyone while creative ideas are the property of a single individual. Furthermore the areas of interest are different for each individual.

If you are always operating on a software platform, you can change all of the menus after the CIMS primary menu. If you do start in a non platform environment, then you should leave ECM SOFTWARE INFORMATION as is since the right button access to documentation only works on a software platform.

For this example we will use the option (A) BASIC SYSTEM INFORMATION. When you select this item you will go directly to a text document in paragraphic mode rather than plain word processing mode. When you do this as an example the following screen will be displayed:

Lets say that you wish to add some information concerning personalization that results from the C~GATES startup option where you enter your initials. You first will notice that the last entry to the right was G) NETWORK CONSIDERATIONS, so you will enter where it says "enter word/code = " the following H)PERSONALIZATION as shown below:

When you press ENTER the system will add H) PERSONALIZATION to the paragraphic list. It will also provide you with a blank left window for you to enter information concerning this topic as shown below: You can enter up to 3 pages of information and up to 16 paragraphic subjects provided that you precede each with a letter as shown. Thus the range of paragraphic subject codes are from (A to O).

When done with text entry you will press the ESC key as in the regular word processing facility. You also have the function keys for information about the process. The program will then ask you "END ACCESS OF CATEGORIES?(Y/N)". If you enter (y) the program will then display a mini menu with the following features:

This is your editing feature for the paragrahic word processing facility other than text editing which is handled the same way as in the regular word processing facility.

UPDATE PARAGRAPHIC HEADING changes the heading that appears in the left blue window.

EDIT PARAGRAPHIC WORD permits you to correct an error in the index log to the right.

DELETE PARAGRAPHIC WORD permits you to delete one of the entries. If you delete an entry in the middle of the index you will have to use the edit facility to change the codes associated with each entry although this is not mandatory.

MOVE PARAGRAHIC WORD permits you to move items in the index list to better suite your fancy.

PRINT PARAGRAPHIC DOCUMENT will print out the total document in paragraphic mode.

COPY DOCUMENT TO/FROM permits you to backup a document to /TEMP directory from which you could email it or save it to floppy. You can also do this in the event you are making major changes in the event you need to restore it.

Addition feature are described in the on line system documentation.
