ON LINE PROCEDURE DOCUMENTATION

ON LINE RESEARCH SUPPORT

The ON LINE PROCEDURE DOCUMENTATION and the ON LINE RESEARCH SUPPORT facility have a lot in common. Both use the paragraphic mode of entry. One is used to develop documentation and the other is used for online research. Both will be discussed here. We will first go over the procedure documentation and then discuss research support. In the research support we will refer to previous descriptions.

Selecting the CIMS idea management system will show this display. You will then select option (A). This will access the ON LINE SYSTEM DOCUMENTATION facility. This is a documentation facility that you can develop although the system comes with examples of system documentation.

The system software documentation is provided as shown above but these can be replaced by your own documentation. If we select option B) ECM SOFTWARE DOCUMENTATION we will get the following screen:

The first three of the ECM software packages are described on this menu. Option (D) proceeds to the next menu. From this we can see that we can build a hierarchical structure of procedures if necessary. Selecting EASYWORD WORD PROCESSING option we get an example of this as shown below:

EASYWORD documentation can be described on one menu screen. If it requires more than one menu screen, it will be chained to the next menu. We will select option (B) SPREADSHEET PROCESSING procedures.

EASYWORD paragraphic facility is utilized for the documentation. This is a paragraphic menu designed to support up to 16 entries. Each entry on the left box has 30 lines of information. Thus you can page down three times if the information exceeds one display. We will select I) LINE TOTALS and the following display appears:

At this point we selected option (I). All that is necessary to enter is I. The letter (I) will be expanded in the location of your entry to the selection you have chosen from the right. The detail information that was entered for that line item will be displayed in top left block. You can page down or simply hit the enter key as in word processing to see the information.

When you are done reviewing the information, you will press the ESC key. The program gives you the option of exiting or continuing in the review of other items listed. If you decide not to continue it will provide you with the following mini menu:

You could request printout of all the entries in this section in paragraphic mode. The other functions are used in the editing and setting up of the paragraphic word processing system. This process will be discussed in the next section. All we are concerned her is how to use this system to access information.

Note that the process is the same as in the C~GATES system as to going back to a previous menu. Simply place the mouse pointer in the top area of the screen above the menu and press the left button. You can also press the Right Button to get the documentation on this system. You can also press the ESC key to return to a previous menu.

ON LINE RESEARCH SUPPORT

Now lets look at ON LINE RESEARCH SUPPORT. You will select (B) to access the on line research facility.

The research support facility that is being displayed is an example of what you can do with this aspect of CIMS. You can choose any subject that you are interested in and replace any menu heading by pressing (X) on a given display. This will permit you to simply change a line item only or add a document file or another menu to it. The forth entry is usually reserved for another menu.

Now the procedure is the same as the previous ON LINE DOCUMENTATION FACILITY with the exception of the ability to access web sites directly from within the description that you set up.

In other words if you found mayo clinic to be informative relative to information that you have in the paragraphic description you simply enter at the beginning of any line

www.mayoclinic.com

and if you want to access that web site you simply position to the line which has the web site and press the (=) key. Rather than replacing the first letter of www with an = it will issue a web command to access that web site. If the web site address is too long for a single line you can extend it to up to 3 lines by using the \ symbol such as:

www.mayoclinic.com/article/cancer/

\12752012a.html

In this way you do not need to print any online information since you have access to the information and it is organized into categories as part of the paragraphic method.

As an example the following display shows all the research topics related to cancer. To select ESSIAC we simply enter (N)

In the description of essiac we see reference to web sites such as WWW.ESSIACFACTS.COM. All that has to be done is position to the line with the web site address and press the (=) equal character. The CIMS program will access and display the web site listed.

On the following display is an example of an extended web site address. Since you are limited on entry of a web site to the blue window, it may require more that one line. Simply place a (\)in the next line and continue.

Once you have made some research comments or simply reviewed them press the ESC key to exit.

Press back icon on web page to return to previous option.
